Information related to a relatively unknown bug affecting the Xenomorphs in the game Aliens: Colonial Marines was recently thrown into the spotlight. Many critics and gamers criticized the game for having a barely functional Xenomorph artificial intelligence among other things. Gaming commentator SidAlpha asserted this about the A.I., that, "people in some missions [were] able to run straight through the waiting Xenos with nothing at all happening and actually being able to complete those levels without firing a single shot."
Above is the line of code in question. Notice that there is an added "a" to "Tether" in the second half of the line of code. That added "a" is what cause the Xenomorph to not properly behave in the game.
Moddb user jamesdickinson963, the bug's discoverer, explains why,
In short, the Xenomorph's A.I. was unable to receive information about the surrounding environment. Without that information the Xenomorphs couldn't find stealthy alternative routes around the player, such as vents.
jamesdickinson963 found the typo while going through some of the game's files in development of a mod back in October of last year. Later sharing the information via a news post on the Moddb page for his mod TemplarGFX's the Aliens: Colonial Marines Overhaul.
It is currently unknown if Gearbox Software, the game's developer, will release a patch to fix the Xenomorph's A.I. tethering issue.
