Yesterday, June 14, Smosh uploaded a new video to their YouTube that shocked the online community. Anthony is leaving Smosh. Yes you did read that right. After 12 years of producing YouTube videos together the comedy duo is splitting up, but only on screen as Ian Hecox states;

"I know a lot of you guys are probably gonna assume he's leaving because we got some sort of big fight or because we hate each other, but I can guarantee you guys as nothing to do with that. That did not happen, we're still friends."

As it turns out Anthony Padilla hasn't been enjoying the corporate life, or at least when it comes to his creativeness. As with most brands and media companies, almost every part of the creative process for a production is pushed through a filter.

"I've been holding on to these memories and hoping that someday Smosh should be like how it was from we first started, before Smosh was a brand, owned by a company. And I had to come to terms with the fact that Smosh, being part of a company, has put all of my creative decisions through a filter of what's appropriate for the Smosh brand, as deemed by the company. I need to feel that happiness again. I need to be doing what makes me happiest to wake up each morning. Right now that's for me to do things on my own again with complete creative freedom, to be able to make whatever I want, whenever I want."

Padilla's YouTube channel, AnthonyPadilla, currently sits at 1.68M but will most likely rise in the coming months. Originally established in 2006, most activity on the channel has been from over the past year.
