Could we be getting an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone Star Wars film?Seeing Obi-Wan return to the Saga films or a standalone film is something fans have wanted for awhile. It may actually be happening now. If the rumors of late are to be believed.
All the speculation began when Entertainment Weekly writer Anthony Breznican appeared on Rebel Force Radio last November. He had this to say about the why the character hadn't been used yet:
Um, I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven't moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they're not done with Obi-Wan quite yet...He continued:
...in the Saga films. So I wouldn't be surprised to see an Obi-Wan thing happen beyond Episode IX. Which it would have to anyway, because they're booked up until Episode IX.
As recent as of last week the rumors really heated up. According to Star Wars news site Star Wars News Net, that an unidentified source with insider knowledge of upcoming Star Wars plans claims:
Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm fully intend to make an Obi-Wan movie set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, with Ewan McGregor in tow.
The anonymous source managed to go into detail about the rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi film starring Ewan McGregor. Even claiming that it will be a single movie, not a trilogy. The source also asserted that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards may or may not direct it, and that the movie will have a different team of writers and producers than Rogue One. The source also said the film might be announced as soon as Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.
If all of this is true, are you excited? We'll have to wait to see if something is officially announced during Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, April 13th-16th.
