The late Carrie Fisher will make an appearance as General Leia in Star Wars: Episode IX, her brother Todd Fisher confirms via the New York Daily News. He was attending the opening night gala of the TCM Film Festival in Los Angeles, celebrating In the Heat of the Night.
After months of speculation about Carrie's future in the Star Wars saga, Todd has revealed that Disney wants to bring Princess/General Leia back for the finale of the new trilogy, Episode IX. Todd continues to say that he along with Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, have granted the studio the rights to use existing footage of Carrie for the finale. It has already been established that CGI would not be used to recreate General Leia via a press release earlier this year.
Fisher went on to further clarify his and his niece, Billie Lourd's stance:
..."Yes, how do you take her out of it? And the answer is you don't, She's as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan - when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue."There you have it. Leia will be back for Episode IX. Or at least her family has given the blessing to bring her back.
